Making Progress…
Hey all!
So the only thing that I really remember from this past week involves a really cool couple of people. Last week I wrote about exchanges and all the stuff that happened there. Well, in the mix of things Elder Steenblik and Elder Walzer taught some of our amis that we hadn’t seen in a long time. Their names are Tony and Angela…really cool people. In the past when we’ve taught them it was once a week if we were lucky. Tony got overloaded pretty quickly and didn’t really like that. But this past week we saw them FOUR TIMES! Twice at their house and twice at the church.
Thursday they came to have a church tour with us and loved it. Tony especially loved how we have different classes for all the different ages and sexes, because as he said, ‘Everyone is different and we all have different needs, and it’s really easy to get lost during Mass, but here the teacher can know your name and your needs and address them.’ After the tour we showed them ‘Special Witnesses’ and talked a little about Apostles and Prophets. They commited once again to come to church on Sunday.
So, Saturday rolls around and we have spare time, so we decide to run over to their place with the Jesus Christ Ensign. We were expecting to just talk 5-10 minutes and then leave, but we ended up staying 45 minutes answering questions and talking more about the church. Awesome it was. Tony read Gordon B. Hinckley’s testimony and was really inpressed by it.
Sunday, the day of truth…to not hold on to the suspense at all…THEY CAME!! It was so great. We got them a ride to church with some members and the wife is from la reunion (and so is Angela). She got really excited that there was going to be anyother La Reunion person at church. So when Angela showed up at Church, she and Sr. Wagemacker immeadiatly hit it off. It was so cool. It was Ward Conference so we did all the sustainings for everything and we explained to Tony and Angela that we don’t do that every Sunday but just at Conferences like that. After Sacrament meeting the Stake President and the Bishop introduced themselves and talked with them for a bit. As they were trying to leave, everyone kept coming up and talking to them…it was great!
So yeah, we’re praying for progress with them and think good things are going to come, we just need to keep working with them.
Our other family that’s doing good is Brice and Alexandrea. They got their own apartment so they’re not living at Brice’s parents’ place and we helped them with their move. They want us to start coming over more often to teach and Brice keeps opening up more and more with us. Yesterday I stopped by during exchanges and dropped off a illustrated Book of Mormon for Adrian and while we were there Brice wanted to show off his new place to us and tell us about everything that he’s doing. He’s a really sweet guy and we hope to get him active again. He says he’s going to keep up FHE with the kids and Alexandrea, and he invited us over next week to help out! So little steps with them.
We’re still on the look out for new amis, no one showed up on the radar last week, but with exchanges and traveling, and conferences it was kind of a messed up week.
Today I had my medical visit to make me legal. It was a little different, and I’m glad the doctor spoke some English because there were some words I totally didn’t understand. So I hope that I pass all the tests and can be legal here in France.
We coming up onto a 9 week transfer this next week. I can’t tell if I’m staying or going or what so we’ll see what happens. On that note, transfer calls are this weekend and our district looks like it’s going to be shaken up a bit. We have one going home, one that needs to be transferred, and a Soeur that is for sure gone, but as for me and my house we will probably continue to serve the Lord here in Pau.
I know this is kind of short, but just know that I love you all and wish you all the best!
Je vous aime,
Elder Jacob
PS- Hey, what’s an email without a sweet story. So Friday we were helping Brice move. After we were all done he gave us a ride home in the moving van. All French people drive crazy but it seemed even more crazy in a moving van. We were descending this hill when we saw a bridge…then we saw the circle next to the bridge…the circle read “3.1m”…our truck was 3.3m…we were going kind of fast…Brice slammed on the brakes…we stopped…two inches (literally) from the bridge…it was freaky scary awesome…we laughed…we let out a sigh of relief…we backed up traffic…it was awesome.
